ASUS TUF Gaming F15 Gaming Laptop

ASUS TUF Gaming F15 Gaming Laptop

Who want to buy gaming laptops i think we can broadly categorize them into two sorts of people one is the kind of people who want the best everything you know best in class the best flagship products with all the rgb flare and all the bells and whistles and that's fine but then there's the other end of the spectrum who just want pure performance you know just the pure performance they don't really care about the rgb flare they don't really care about the design they don't really care about the looks even the build quality to some people does not really matter that much now if you belong to that latter part or the second grow of people well the asus tough gaming laptop is exactly what you should be looking at this is one from guiding tech and this right here is the asus stuff dash f15 gaming laptop one that i've been using for the past one month and i have to say if you don't really care about the looks and all the bells and whistles this one manages to give its competitors a very tough competition all right so let me be clear it's not like the f50 looks bad or anything it's just not that flashy as most gaming laptops nowadays are it looks fine to be honest just a bit bulky and not that flashy but a part of me actually likes that because you've seen budget gaming laptops try and look good and fail miserably this on the other hand looks subtle yet obviously a gaming laptop you get the pseudo-metallic lid while everything else is tough plastic the palm rests have a brushed aluminum texture that is again well quite subtle and proves to be sort of helpful for those sweaty sessions now the laptop weighs around 2.3 kgs which is definitely heavy and this thing isn't slim either add to that a bulky charger and this isn't exactly your on-the-go machine but then again most gaming laptops aren't either in terms of i o you have a usb a and a kensington lock on the right side with a massive exhaust between them while over to the left side you get the ac adapter an rj45 ethernet port a full-size hdmi port two usb 3.2 ports a usb type-c port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack that type c port is a thunderbolt 4 port by the way and supports display out as well but it does not support power delivery now to be honest the design and i o here is pretty good i mean there is hardly anything to complain about and if i had to say something i would have probably liked an sd card reader here considering that the whole package is very well suited for a lot of content creators as well to some extent i'll get to that in a bit but yeah an sd card would have been a good addition but it's not something that would be a deal breaker for a lot of folks i mean there's no flashy thing such as the keystone that the rog lineup offers but i think that's the whole concept of the tough lineup just to give you the essentials and nothing more now carrying on that sentiment is the display which is a 15.6 inch 144hz panel the high refresh rate is something that's become quite common now and i like the fact that while most oems opt for a 120 hertz panel asus went all out with a 144 hertz one unfortunately the colors on this are a hit and miss it'll be fine for the average joe and you can do your normal editing work on this as well but if you're a content creator buying this laptop you would have to buy an external monitor for sure because this panel only goes as far as about 65 srgb coverage which is very average the viewing angles are decent but the peak brightness is a little shy of 300 nits all in all a great package and i think most folks will anyway value the higher refresh rate over a great color accuracy so yeah once again the tough scores great points over there alright so let's talk about the keyboard and the touchpad for a bit now because like obviously i am primarily a writer as well and the keyboard matters a lot to me and i just have to say one thing to begin with while this is an rgb keyboard rgb keyboard it's not exactly perky customizable and the rgb in itself is single zoned so although you have those effects and everything such as the strobing and the breathing effects it's nothing super fancy or anything i think that's fine because the main thing that matters is the keyboard in itself and i have to say typing on this keyboard has been a fantastic experience the key travel is great and the keycaps are perfectly sized asus has also provided with a full-size keyboard here and while the arrow keys are slightly smaller as we've seen on the earlier models as well it still translates into a great experience overall now i do miss having dedicated hotkeys for volume control or launching the armory crate or something but once again that's something that asus results or the rog lineup and i think most folks would be okay with using the function key and the arrow keys to actually access those options now moving along there's the touchpad and we have proper left and right click buttons here along with a decently sized touch pad the surface on this is a fingerprint magnet and in the relatively short period that i've used this machine you can already see the smudges forming over the surface thankfully that hasn't hindered my experience in any manner it's still super smooth there's enough space for the gestures and the dedicated buttons are also quiet yet have a solid feedback for a good user experience the cameras on this are pretty average but i guess that's fine the audio output as well isn't super loud or anything i mean it's fine for watching a youtube video or playing a casual game but if you plan on watching a movie or doing some intensive gaming you'll need a good pair of headphones okay so now let's talk about the biggest factor that decides a gaming laptop the performance so our unit here comes equipped with an 11th gen intel core i9 11900 edge processor coupled with 16 gb of ddr4 ram clocked at 3200 megahertz for gpu you have the nvidia rtx 3060 gpu and for storage we have a one terabyte nvme ssd from hynex all in all it sounds like a great package and it shows in benchmarks the tough f50 absolutely flies scoring some of the highest points that i've seen on a gaming laptop the i9 processor coupled with the rtx 3060 can handle pretty much everything you throw at it without breaking a sweat synthetic benchmarks were a cakewalk for this beast and the gaming experience on this has been absolutely top notch the 3060 is a great gpu and while it can achieve 60 fps on almost all aaa titles at high settings you can try a mix of medium and high to attain 145 fps on some demanding titles as well now the thing to note here is that while this thing can handle pretty much everything you throw at it it does get loud and i mean seriously seriously loud to the point where owning a good pair of headphones almost becomes a necessity rather than a choice now to asus credit that loudness factor is actually pretty good because this thing never ever like never ever got hot it never crossed the 85 degree mark even under heavy loads and that is a very big testament to how asus has done the thermal management on this thing now i wanted to take a deeper look inside this thermal design of the laptop and in that process i discovered something that i think is the biggest factor about this laptop that i really love which is the upgradability factor i mean seriously opening this thing is super easy and everything is so well organized you get user upgradeable sodium ram slots and there's an additional pci 3m2 slot for adding storage if you want to as for cooling you get two fans and a total of four heat pipes that are very very efficient in their work now below all this is a massive 90 watt battery which when set to balanced profile can easily last about 8 hours which is pretty impressive for a gaming laptop of course under realistic loads this thing only lasts about two hours a little over two hours but i guess that's about what i would expect from a machine that packs in this much horsepower now the good thing here is that the laptop actually comes with support for fast charging and you can top it up from 0 to 100 in a little under one and a half hours which is good but the only downside is that the bundled power brake adapter is a little bit too heavy so bottom line is the asus stuff dash f15 worth your buck well for what it's worth absolutely see i know there are folks out there who want all the bells and whistles who want the rgb flare who want striking lines want great designs want hotkeys and all that all that stuff maybe even a slim form factor and well there are options for that asus has the rog lineup or you can go into competitors like msi and alienware that's great but not everybody wants all of that if you're seeking pure performance and the best value for money the asus tough f-15 gets the job done easily i mean gets the job done might sound like a subtle statement because this thing packs in some serious serious power to the point where you won't really be disappointed with the laptop at all i understand if you're a content creator eyeing this thing like i said you'll have to buy a secondary monitor so that's probably a slight downside here but for everything else easy easy recommendation there's an asterisk mark there uh easy recommendation simply because i'll say that although we have the i9 variant here with us i'll say don't buy that the reason for that is that this comes with an rdx 3060 and the i9 is kind of like an overkill for that gpu instead you'll be better off buying one of those i5 or the i7 variants that are still paired with the rtx 360.so you'll get a much better value for money package while losing out only a handful not even a handful maybe one or two frames here and there so yeah i think that is a much better proposition.
